Detailed 1/48 scale model kit of the World War II U.S. Army Air Force P-38 Lightning, one of the fastest piston-engine fighters ever produced. Originally developed by Lockheed in 1937, P-38s were used most extensively and successfully in the Pacific Theater of Operations, where American pilots scored the largest number of aerial victories, records that are still standing today. Among the top American aces are the legendary Richard Bong who earned 40 aerial victories in a Lightning he called "Marge" and Thomas McGuire who scored 38 kills in a P-38 he named "Pudgy".
